FLY ROD BUILDING 101

Worley Bugger Fly Co. is offering a beginning fly rod building class focused on trout and steelhead weight fly rods.  You will learn how to transform a raw blank into a beautiful customized fly rod. With these skills you will also be able to repair or even restore your old rods.  This is a skill for ages 13 years and older.

Your instructor for the 4 night - 2 hour sessions will be Ellensburg resident, Mr. Jim Allen.  Jim is a hobby fly rod builder and has several years of experience constructing custom rods for family gifts, friends, and customers. Jim's son, Justin was awarded top prize for a recent fly rod that was constructed for the Kittitas County Fair.

Class size will be limited to 6 students.  Once the class is filled another will be offered the following month.  This will insure each student receives the individual attention needed to construct a quality fly rod.

During the 4 night session you will learn;

  • What is the difference between a IM4 and an IM6 graphite fly rod ?

  • What is Squim?

  • How do you spine a rod-blank?
  • What’s a winding check?

You will learn the answers to these questions and more throughout each class session.
