Baseline Lake

A Pontoon boat or float can be used to fish Baseline, but is not necessary.  Wading from the banks, productively working the shelves and edges is the most effective methods and can determine the rate of success an angler will experience at Baseline  Feeding lanes run consistently around the lake at 15'-25 feet from the water's edge. The Baseline trout expend there energies cruising these shelves, ledges and weed beds, feeding on a variety of aquatic insects that inhabit this incredible fishery.

A water depth of ( 7' ) seven feet at the deepest point runs consistently throughout the 11 acres of fishable water.  Because Baseline was structured with a shallow sandy bottom, the trout, that will exceed 12 pounds, unable to make deep dives, erupt in a energetic bursts across the lake, creating an effect very similar to Pacific Northwest Steelhead.  A high quality reel with a powerful drag system, loaded with plenty of backing is recommended when trying to control and land these strong, healthy fish.

Baseline Lake Season

January February March April May June July August September October November December

Red = closed season Blue = open season

Baseline is constantly fed by a fresh ground water well at a consistent 54° on the south end of the lake, which has provided a healthy vegetation growth through the lake.  It has also created a insect habitat that rivals other basin fisheries.  The natural food source from the lake creates a healthy, active, energetic feeding fish.

In five years of development, the lake's insect life has grown very rapidly.  Within its vegetation lives an over abundant amount of aquatic life.

The Dark Olive ScudFreshwater Scuds, Damsels, Dragonflies, Callibaetis Mayflies, Chironomid's, Leeches, Water Boatmen and Caddis, all reside within the Baseline system.  A variety of flies consistently catch these constantly feeding fish.

The growth rate of the trout here is very rapid due to the food sources that are available to them.  The average size trout in the lake at this time is about 2.0 lbs-4.0lbs.  Their are some smaller fish that average 14-16".  Fish in the 4-12 lbs. range are not uncommon and will put your skills and gear to the test.
