This beautiful little river located near Missoula is a local favorite and on the warm summer day it shows.  State Highway 200 runs parallel to the river and for 30 miles there are public access.  Boat Launch facilities, camp and picnic sites are plentiful along the river.

The Blackfoot is considered a dry fly river.   It has a great hatch of Salmon Flies and also Golden Stones which last well into July.  Watch for B.W.O.'s to start there hatching ritual in April.  Caddis are abundant in the summer months and the river sees a hatch of October Caddis in the fall.

The Blackfoot is primarily a rainbow trout river, but the occasional brown & cutthroat will be caught.  There are also some bull trout in the river.

The Blackfoot is protected over by a watchdog group called "The Clark Fork Coalition" they are constantly battling to save this precious resource from Mining and Timber interests.  Click there link and drop them a line to show your support.

This is the river that came to fame in the Robert Redford movie "A River Runs Through It" from Norman Maclean's classic autobiography.
