Your tippet can be adjusted accordingly to your demands.  Whether in the spring when long tippet is needed or summer when casting bigger bugs and a shorter leader is comparable.  I also recommend tying in a section of 4 lbs. in the spring and fall when casting tiny flies is essential to presentation and performance.

The 30 lbs. butt section should be used on rod weights over 6.  Anything below that we start the butt section at 25 lbs.
