Spey
Lines |
| |
|

|
| |
|
|
Modern
spey lines were pioneered and developed by Jim Vincent, with the
help of other proficient spey casters. |
|
Spey
casting requires a different design of fly line than regular
overhead casting with a weight forward. The head length needs
to be longer to enable the spey cast to "anchor" easily and it needs
to be much heavier than a standard fly line. |
|
For
example, a regular #8 weight forward line weighs around 210 grains
at 30 feet. The Rio WindCutter #8 (7/8/9) has a head weight of
525 grains. |
|
Rio
Products, the Spey Line Specialist, is the only company with three
different spey taper designs so casters can choose the right line
for their individual preferences. |
|
Add to
this the option of having these lines in a regular floating or an
interchangeable tip design and you will find that Rio has a spey
line for every situation, every spey rod designed and everyone's
casting ability. |

WindCutter®
Spey
Line |
|
| This is a spey line
with a short, easy loading 54 ft head. It is by far the best choice
of line for beginners and those learning to spey cast. It is also
perfect for the shorter spey rods on the market, rods from 11 ft to
12 ft 6 inches, as a line with a longer head will be far more
difficult to manage. |
|
| For the better caster,
this is the line of choice (the interchangeable tip version) when
attaching the heavier Big Boy tips, from 200 grains upwards and also
for those casters who like to shoot the line to get great distance
with little effort. |
|
| For optimum casting
keep the color change of the running line just outside the rod tip.

|
| |
|
| RIO introduces
the GrandSpey™, the finest long belly spey line on the market and based
on a very true and tested taper |
|
| In 1895,
Alexander Grant cast a massive 195 feet with his design of a continuous
taper line. Rio has improved the front taper from this original design
so that it easily casts big flies and sink tips, as well as adding a
body and back taper. The end result is a spey line that is designed to
do one thing — cast long distances. |
|
The GrandSpey is
ideal for the caster who prefers not to shoot line, but to fish in the
traditional method of cast and
swing. This is recommended for the more advanced spey caster. |

15 Ft Type 8 Tip
 |
|
| |
|
| RIO’s newest 15
ft tip is a Type 8 (8-9 ips) that really gets the fly down. |
|
| This tip is
included as standard in all new interchangeable tip spey lines, but can
be purchased separately for those wanting to add this super fast sinking
tip to their set up. |
|
| All tips in our
interchangeable tip spey lines are now bar coded and color coded for
easy identification |
|
| One fat bar
represents a five and one thin bar represents a one, thus a bar code of
one fat bar and four thin bars is a #9 tip. Intermediate tips are clear |
