About coatings and cores in RIO fly lines |
| There isn't a coating or core perfect for all conditions. A coldwater fly line is excellent for trout, salmon, steelhead or stripers when water or air temperatures are less than 65 degrees. The coldwater fly line is formed on a nylon multifilament braid with a soft, pliable, self-lubricating coating that has no memory and stays pliable. However, as air or water warms up, a soft coating/braid will tend to loose its dynamic loop energy and start to sag. In really hot, muggy or humid fishing situations, RIO's tropical saltwater fly lines take over with single strand monofilament and braided monofilament cores and stiff coatings. All fly lines are manufactured by RIO at our Idaho facility. |

SlickShooter Process |
|
For over three years, RIO's R&D Department has been further evolving RIO's fly line manufacturing process and, as a result, the company is proud to announce the introduction of a significant manufacturing development. All of RIO's floating lines (with the exception of the MainStream series) are now produced by the new SlickShooter Process for super slick, incredibly smooth fly lines. The SlickShooter Process is a combination of unique chemistry and manufacturing protocols making fly lines that shoot line further and perform better than ever when fishing. The added advantages of our SlickShooter
Process are the self-lubricating, dirt-resistant, durable
coatings that result in a longer lasting fly line that retains
its slickness even after other brands of fly lines have lost

RIO Grand™
Fly Line |
|
With the increasing popularity of fast-action fly rods,
RIO has had numerous requests to develop a line that
could load these rods quickly, yet make a delicate
presentation. As a result, Rio is proud to announce the
evolution of the latest fly line, the RIO Grand, state-of-the-art in fly line technology with distinctive benefits for the trout fly fisher.

|
The tip floats extremely high due to RIO's proprietary manufacturing process, yet gives a smooth light delivery of even the smallest dry fly. The weight forward taper features a slightly heavier load to activate the faster modern fly rod, yet the rear taper is long enough for roll casting. The line is the product of RIO's new SlickShooter Process and incorporates a supple coldwater, super slick, self-lubricating, dirt resistant coating on a nylon multifilament core. This is the perfect line for wet or dry fly fishing. |

|
RIO has included a welded
loop on the front end of the fly line to facilitate
changing leaders. In tests, Rio found excellent turnover and presentation with this loop. When landing fish it slides through the rod guides more easily than the customary nail knot. Traditionalists can cut this loop off and not compromise the taper.
